RIC Health Insurance Benefits
Medical Insurance
The Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (RIC) is committed to offering a variety of medical benefits that provide generous coverage for both employees and their covered dependents. The plans are designed to allow employees to tailor their coverage levels to both individual and family needs, plan structure preference and monthly financial planning. RIC offers medical plan choices for our employees from two of the largest and most trusted insurance providers in the country: a PPO medical plan with Blue Cross Blue Shield, and an EPO (HMO like) medical plan with Aetna. We strive to offer flexible and competitive benefits in the local marketplace at an affordable price, and realize the importance of having peace of mind that your coverage is accessible when you need it.
Dental Insurance
As part of the comprehensive health insurance coverage offered to employees and their families, RIC offers dental benefits through either BlueCare PPO or Guardian/First Commonwealth DHMO. Similar to the two medical plan options, the two dental plans provide employees the opportunity to select between PPO and HMO plan structures. Employees can enroll in either dental plan without respect to their choice of medical plans, allowing the greatest amount of flexibility for employees to tailor their coverage levels to both individual and family needs, plan structure preference and monthly financial planning.
Vision Insurance
In addition to the complementary vision discounts employees are eligible to utilize through their respective medical insurance plans, RIC offers its employees the additional opportunity to enroll in dedicated vision insurance coverage. This insurance provides members optometry coverage and discounts for vision services including eye exams, frames and eye glass lenses and contacts at both national chains and local providers.
Income Protection and Life Insurance
RIC realizes the importance of providing employees a perpetual level of income protection in the event they suffer an unforeseen sickness or injury. As such, RIC automatically enrolls all benefits eligible employees in Long-Term Disability (LTD) coverage, with the premiums paid courtesy of RIC. LTD provides employees income replacement in the event that they become sick or injured and are unable to work.
RIC realizes the importance of having peace of mind that your family is protected in the event of an unforeseen event or loss. As such, RIC provides all benefits eligible employees group life insurance coverage after 90 days of employment. This group term life and AD&D insurance is administered by The Hartford, and provides a policy value equal to 1.5 times your total annual compensation, to a maximum of $200,000.
Upon hire, employees must initially designate primary and contingent beneficiaries for this coverage, and you may change your beneficiaries by visiting the Human Resources Department. RIC employees are automatically enrolled in this coverage. There are no payroll deductions and you’ll never see a premium invoice. However, the IRS mandates that all group term life insurance policies above $50,000 be added as imputed income on annual W2 tax documentation. RIC tracks the additional amounts on a monthly basis and adjusts the year-end W2.
Retirement
Pension Plan
The Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (RIC) offers a variety of retirement benefits that provide generous options for employees once they reach retirement age. Our Pension plan is 100% funded by RIC, and allows individuals to supplement other retirement savings.
